Countdown to departure for the Centropa Summer Academy in Krakow and Warsaw Poland...

I think the time to pack has arrived.  I have created the lists of what to bring and what might remain at home in my mind, but departure looms near, and I ought to get packing!I am excited to travel to Poland again.  My first travel to Poland was in 1999 with the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teachers Program www.hajrtp.org whose leaders and coordinators provided a moving, meaningful, and powerful educational experience.

In 2010 I returned to Poland with Civic Voices International Democracy Memory Bank - a collection of personal narratives that preserve the legacy of important democratic struggles. http://civicvoices.org/ The interviews were conducted by students and educators from around the globe and are organized by democratic concepts and key words.

This summer, I return to Poland with Centropa, a Jewish historical institute dedicated to preserving 20th century Jewish family stories from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans.  I look forward to exploring and learning with other teachers from several locations in the US, in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East.  Each of us are dedicated educators seeking to learn and bring meaningful experiences to our students and colleagues.

I hope you will accompany me on this journey of discovery...
